Our Scope of Activities:

Our activities will focus on:

  • Lifting Operations within the context of construction;

  • Installation, maintenance, thorough examination and inspection operations

Occupations including but not restricted to:

 

  • The operating of lifting equipment;

  • Slinging/signalling;

  • Plant/vehicle marshalling;

  • Commissioning, erecting and dismantling of lifting equipment;

  • Loading, unloading and transporting of lifting equipment;

  • Planning and supervision of lifting activities;

  • Other roles where considered relevant;

  • Interactions with other related areas of Health and safety;

  • Logistics and production lifting interfaces.

Our Aim

The principle aim of the ILLAPG is to support industry on improvements and assistance to make lifting operations safer and more efficient in areas such as technical matters and standards, guidance, training and improved methods of working.

Our Objectives:

  • Identify any industry-specific needs for lifting-based operational good practices and safety-based requirements
  • identify industry requirements for improvements to skills and competency that relate to lifting-based standards and certification, including apprenticeships;
  • Provide industry-agreed advice and guidance to assist the development of skills and competency standards, and delivery methods, including apprenticeships;
  • Provide industry-agreed guidance and advice for improvements to lifting-related matters to official and authoritative bodies, trade bodies and other relevant bodies and to the construction sector in general;
  • Develop guidance material and publications to support operational good practice, competence and skills;
  • Provide an industry forum to share information and good practice for those involved in lifting-based operations;
  • Enable and maintain relationships and communication with other organisations with similar and vested interests.

President

The role of the ILLAPG President is to oversee the direction and functionality of the group, ensuring it meets industry requirements

Council

The ILLAPG is led by a Council comprising of members from industry and will ensure a balanced composition for the representation of both SME and large employers. The Council is formed of a tranche of Primary and Deputy Chairs who through rotation, manage the functions and activities on a day-to-day basis.

Technical Standards Group

Nominated by the Council and acts to provide a technical and advisory role to the Council and will

 

  • Examination of technical content for accuracy and relevancy
  • Advising on technical training requirements
  • Devising ILLAPG-badged technical-based documentation
  • Examining technical standards e.g. BSI for suitability and relevancy to current industry practices
  • Seeking feedback on industry practices and formulate safety and technical guidance
  • Acting as technical advice service for employers, trade associations, manufacturers, standard-setting bodies and certificating/training bodies.

Members

For those who have a vested interest in lifting-related matters from within the construction and allied sectors. Membership is free but requires ongoing participation of group activities and requires annual registration, based on a statement to uphold and support the activities of the ILLAPG.
